The Subclass 491 Visa comprises two streams tailored to different applicant groups:

  1. State or Territory Nominated Stream – For skilled workers nominated by a state or territory government.

  2. Family-Sponsored Stream – For skilled workers sponsored by an eligible family member residing in a designated regional area.

Eligibility Criteria:


To apply, you must:

  • Receive a written invitation to apply for this visa.

  • Lodge your application within the timeframe specified in the invitation (typically 60 days).

  • Be under 45 years of age at the time of invitation.

  • Nominate a skilled occupation listed by the Minister and have a positive skills assessment for that occupation.

  • Be nominated by a state or territory government.

  • Meet health, character, and English language requirements.

  • Be sponsored by an eligible family member residing in a designated regional area of Australia.

  • Meet the same age, occupation, skills assessment, health, character, and English language requirements as the State or Territory Nominated Stream

 

Designated Regional Areas:
You must live, work, and study in a designated regional area, which excludes major cities like Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane.

The Subclass 491 Visa grants full work rights within designated regional areas, allowing you to pursue employment without restrictions on specific employers or industries.

Family Members:
Eligible family members, including your spouse, partner, and dependent children, can be included in the visa application, enabling them to join you in Australia with similar rights and obligations.
