Skills in demand Visa (subclass 482)

The Skills in Demand Visa (Subclass 482), formerly known as the Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) Visa, allows skilled workers to come to Australia to fill positions that are in high demand across various sectors. This visa enables Australian employers to sponsor workers from overseas for jobs that cannot be filled by the local workforce. The visa is temporary but offers an opportunity for workers to contribute to the Australian economy, gain experience, and potentially transition to permanent residency.

The Skills in Demand Visa is divided into three main streams: Core Skills Stream, Specialist Skills Stream, and Labour Agreement Stream. Each stream is designed to accommodate different skill levels and types of employment needs.

Key Features of the Skills in Demand Visa:

Core Skills Stream:

  • lApplicants must have a job offer in an occupation listed on the CSOL and meet the specified salary threshold.

  • The visa is typically granted for up to four years, with the possibility of transitioning to permanent residency, depending on the occupation and employer.

  • Occupation List: The CSOL includes occupations across various industries, such as engineering, healthcare, and information technology, that are in demand in the Australian labor market.

Specialist Skills Stream:

  • For highly specialized professionals who are nominated for occupations that require advanced expertise, typically in areas like technology, science, research, and senior management.

  • This stream is ideal for individuals with rare or highly specialized skills that are needed to address skill shortages in specific industries.

  • Visa validity: Up to 4 years, with the possibility of extending or transitioning to permanent residency depending on the occupation and employer.

Labour Agreement Stream:

  • For individuals nominated under a labour agreement between the Australian employer and the government. This is typically for industries or regions facing significant skill shortages.

  • The Labour Agreement Stream allows employers to sponsor workers for positions that are critical to their business but may not be included on the Skills Occupation List.

  • Visa validity: Up to 4 years.
